Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which will be provided at the time of booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle in Edinburgh requires:
- To rent a vehicle in Edinburgh, drivers must be a minimum of 21 years old. Age restrictions may vary depending on the vehicle type, with additional fees applicable for those under 25. A valid full driving licence for the appropriate vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of address. 3. Reservations and Payments
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, by phone, or directly at our Edinburgh office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment, along with a security deposit, is generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
4. Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and promptly report any pre-existing damage. A vehicle condition report will be created and signed to document the state of the vehicle. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as it was collected, allowing for reasonable wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as it was at pick-up; refueling charges will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns could result in extra fees, so please contact us as soon as possible if you expect a delay. You will be accountable for any parking fines, traffic infractions, or charges incurred during the rental period, in addition to an administration fee.
5. Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You’ll find comprehensive coverage details and any applicable excess amounts outlined in your Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to further limit your financial responsibility. Review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for damages or loss up to the insurance excess unless further coverage is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violations of these Terms remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Vehicle Uses
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities, including racing, rallying, or off-roading. Transporting hazardous materials is prohibited. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Ensure the vehicle is used for its intended purposes, and do not exceed passenger or weight limits. Driving outside of the specified geographical areas requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed under Scottish law, Car Hire Edinburgh will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are governed by Scottish law. Any disputes will be handled exclusively within the jurisdiction of Scottish courts.
